The creative ingenuity of this painter is widely recognized notwithstanding his impetuousness. His work is almost exclusively the fruit of bouts of passion and inspiration that permit him to transfer to the canvas the anxiety of his soul. This it is translated in self-assured brush strokes, actually movement simulated by the work of the spatula, or in the use of the own fingers in applying the color, always under subject to the essence of the work.
His work possesses an expressionist ting at times with a clear influence of the Cubism of Picasso. In other instances candor and naďve coolness overtake, elements that confer a singular mark to his artistic production. .

Recurrent themes are the faces of clowns and women. They transmit tenderness sadness, solitude, showing us more of the internal world of Toste, sometimes by way of the female body and its reflected psychology.

The work of Toste possesses an affectionate character reflecting the nature of the artist himself. His work has been marked to a great extent by his personal relations as if his own life was extended by it. A virtuous man compromised within his won art.
