Raúl C. Santos Zerpa (Santoserpa)
Graduated after studying drawing, sculpture and painting in 1962 from the Academy of Plastic Arts Leopoldo Romańach, in Santa Clara.
Graduated from the Plastic Instructor School of Arts in the Hotel Sevilla.
He has had an outstanding career as professor of art and cultural promoter.
As member of the Association the International of Plastic Artists of UNESCO (AIAP), he has been selected as Judge in national and international art competitions.
The artist has realized 38 personal exhibitions in Cuba, Hungary and Poland, and participated in 403 collective exhibitions in twenty-seven countries in Europe, South America, North America, Asia and Africa. Raul Santos Zerpa has received ten prizes for his work.
A retrospective exhibition of his work was staged in the “Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes” of Havana, from July to September of 2009. The artist has various works of his included in its collection, as well as in those of other Cuban institutions and other countries.
A follower of an abstract tendency, with predominance of the value of the technique of “staining” his merit is based in obtaining that when the image arrives at the spectator, he identifies with the image as the concretion of a fantastic reality. His work maintains a delicate balance between the creative freedom and the originality, marked by the chromatic rhythm, and the emotive elements of its conceptual presuppositions.
